Couldn't resist the feeling of these magnolias reaching up into the sky. Started as a thumbnail sketch and finished in the studio from memory of the feeling and photo reference. This painting is a composition ultimately worked out on the panel, adding and subtracting as I went, referencing a few flowers from that morning that made me feel the same way I did that day. It was like walking out and seeing these blooms look like they were reaching out to take in a long breath of cool air.
